One common mistake is you really have order the wraps, it makes a difference if you don't alternate the bottom and top wraps--like the difference between a granny knot and a square knot.
The knot in your image is a great knot to--I guess my real point was a normal knot doesn't work on round laces. I like the one I use because I have a sure fire method for teaching it to kids and they can usually get it on the first try and it comes with a little easy to remember poem so they always get the wraps in the right order.
