>>2812654Wait, so now, we're counting food all of a sudden?
Never weighed the actual parts, but I had like 5 days worth of Ramen noodles, some teabags, beef jerk and a pack of oatmeal at the time. Must've been around 2-2,5kg. Add to that 1L of water (most of my hikes are near streams, so I keep one bottle filled in addition to a bunch of empty 2L canteens that I only fill up for the last couple 100m before camp), an american milsurp Molle Alice, German milsurp Def 4 sleeping bag, Klymit sleeping mat, groundsheet, small british silnylon milsurp tarp and a few odds and ends, and you end up at those 12kg.
No idea how you end up at 7kg of food. Even when I'm at home, eating lots of fruits, veggies and other non-dehydrated food, I rarely hit 7kg / week. And yes, I've hauled that food on my back for years as well... Though I'll admit that that was more of the "stupid japs won't accept a German drivers license and can't keep their busses to a schedule" thing than a matter of principle.
