Could that also be dual purposed for chickens? I was playing with the idea of a male german angora rabbit and female NZ. The reason being is I can spin fibers, and their silk goes for a stupid amount of money. I first thought that the doe should be the angora, since I'd have to have her pretty tamed to brush and trim and hopefully the kits will be accustomed to people and less of a pain to handle and kill. But then I remembered the doe is going to be giving birth with that long ass hair. I've looked into it and people have used angoras for meat and it's said they don't differ much from taste, but my main concern is feed/meat ratio, and if I could still use the skinned pelt of the offspring or if it will be a weird, whispy angora coat. if SHTF though the angora idea is fucked, and no one is buying exotic fibers in a pandemic.
>>1730898Overcharging for pellets or hay? I've looked into it a bit and figured i'd supplement with a bit of pellets just since they are packed with protein, and they will likely get to market weight faster on pellet supplements. Hay can be a bitch, stores charge a ton and if it gets moldy it's fucked. They will eat pretty much any garden scraps ya got though which is nice, not to mention veggie kitchen scraps. But they unfortunately do need constant access to hay, it makes up like 80% of their damn diet. Do you have a specific breed or just mutts?
>>1730970If you eat nothing but rabbit for your main food source, you can actually get too much protein and not enough fat. It can actually cause malnutrition. It's also known as Rabbit Starvation because rabbits are packed with protein and have almost no fat.
