The west is home to the oldest trees in the world. California alone has the second oldest tree known to man as well as the oldest non-clonal trees. What exactly do you mean when you say the east coast has the "age of nature."
The main thing that the East coast has is a spread out population which divides the landscape. The west has more concentrated population centers which allows for large wilderness areas with extremely low population densities.
