Route is based on using long distance paths with accomodation etc nearby.
Take the Via Franigenia from Rome to Calais
Ferry to Dover
Take the North Loop of the North Downs Way to the through Canterbury. When you see London. Head north till you hit the River Thames
Follow the Thames path West, Till you hit Oxford.
From Oxford Head North to Coventry and pick up the Heart of England Way heading North to join the Staffordshire way.
Keep North to Manchester then head east a bit to join the Pennine way.
Keep North till you hit the wall.
Your choice is then to go West to Carlisle or East to Newcastle
