Any large, durable boot is going to sacrifice some breathability. A half-way house would be a boot that is lower on the tongue and collar.

My advice is to suck it up, buy a decent pair of boots that you know fit you well, and keep a good system for changing pairs, and socks, if you'll be doing a lot of walking.
