I'm ackchually on board with OP's idea and I'll tell you why.
Some crab apple varieties are delicious, and all of them are a beautiful addition to any landscape. Some of youse may remember me posting that I found a grove of wild apples deep in a thorny thicket in the woods, the likely offspring of a large farm established in 1690 and burned in the late 1700s. For me it was a gold mine, I would go back every September and harvest buckets of apples, large and small, red, yellow, and green, and snack on them and use them to make pies. There were some very hard and stachy apples that would have been great as feed or even cider. Propagating fruit trees should be encouraged. The possums and bees thank you.
