quick bump, the idea here is that these double portion bags are cut to fit inside my cooking pot, where they can thaw during the day and be reheated for my brother and i. with essentially no wasted drinking water and negligible cleanup (nothing stuck to the pot, only clean the plates)
the food choices are also meant to freeze and thaw gracefully, and not be something like steak that's really sensitive to specific temperatures. i'll link the recipes i base this shit off of, and some notes
>beef stew: i forget the original recipe, but marinating the beef in wine overnight is key. i also make a flavor supplement by blending fresh herbs and garlic in some of the broth before adding it backhttps://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/beef-stew-with-carrots-potatoes.html>barley: it's just a grain. maybe serve it under some chicken skewers or leave it at home>chili: added homemade fermented cayenne hot sauce and extra jalapenos, flirted with the idea of using habaneroshttps://www.spendwithpennies.com/the-best-chili-recipe/>breakfast burritos: dunno if this is gonna be a failure, but i removed as much water as possible from the filling and browned the shells in an egg wash to seal them and crisp them uphttps://www.erinliveswhole.com/freezer-friendly-southwestern-breakfast-burritos/>mac and cheese: i forgot the recipe link but the important part is to add mustard and not use milk, cuz that would fuck up in the freezer. i also used lentil rotini to sneak in more proteini wanna make this stuff too. any other high-protein ideas?
