In NZ I'll drink literally any water so long as it hasn't run through town or a farm.
If it's near a small farm and I'm thirsty? Yeah. Only got giardia once, on the Abel Tasman that's notorious for it.
Maybe check out a geo survey map and see what else is around the water table - It's pretty flat there right? Who know what's leeching into the ground.
