If you want a book to read about it (fly fishermen love writing books almost as much as they love reading them), try to find a secondhand copy of "Fly Tying and Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish" by Tom Nixon. The guy revolutionized and codified warm water tactics and patterns that work, despite not looking like "proper" flies.
