The dachshund was bred to go down rabbit warrens. They are long-lived (as are most small breeds), small (easy to carry if you really need to hoof it for whatever reason), and will not require as much food as a bigger breed of dog. Small game is more plentiful than large game and a dachshund will keep you alive longer than any of your big "fuck off" pigging dogs.
