>>1510272Finnish person here, cold climate is a lot more than just the temperature, you really have to consider the wind chill and your clothing or there will be trouble.
- Limited amount of sunlight (in northern Finland, the shortest day of the year has 2 hours of sunglight).
- Wind chill (this is the "feels like" in weather forecast apps these days).
- Sweating and getting their medieval clothes wet. Wet clothes will not insulate you, this is very bad.
- No shelter in open areas, unless they make a tunnel inside deep snow and protect themselves from wind/low temperatures that way.
- Moving in snow and staying in cold requires a lot more energy and food!
- If no firewood, no heat source.
- Tracks are left in the snow and they stay there until snowfall covers them - anyone can see these.
What this leads to:
- Frostbites (at worst, losing fingers and toes and other small appendages, even DICKS).
- Hypothermia.
- Getting lost in darkness and suffering the effects of the climate even longer and even when tired, hungry etc. Basically a survival situation.
- Getting easily tracked by enemies.
