You should also mention that the "juglone" is the reason to keep these trees well away from your other trees, shrubs, and gardens. If you use wood chips or leaves from black walnut, you have to make sure it is very well composted before using it as compost. As in broken down over the course of a year, not simply hot composted in a few weeks. I can't find info on how heat stable juglone is.
