Had a couple days off and wasn't able to update.
Currently I am sticking it out and hope people lose interest, probably a vain endeavour. My back up sites are not as good. They range from 9-18 kilometers away from work.
The 18 km site being the best. Actually, its awesome. I camped there recreationally before, well, I consider what I'm doing now recreational, but you know what I mean...
I don't know if my legs would thank me though, doing 36km every day 5-6 days a week with an average backpack loadout of 8kg on top of gym, work etc.
But I mean if my body could adapt, goddamn. I'd feel fucking invincible after a few weeks of that.
Trouble is, 18 km is a long fucking way time-wise. I walk on average 5.75-7km/h doing the math on previous commute times. So taking it easy it would take around 3h and 20 mins. Huffing it, I could probably do 2 or 2 and 1/2, but that would be a "Shit shit I'm gonna be late!" Scenario, and I'd probably want to die after.
That is over 3 hours sweating inside rain gear in poor weather. 3 hours of soaking wet boots chewing the hide off my heals and toe-tops.
7 hours a day on the slog, and god fucking help me if I were to sprain an ankle like I did a couple weeks ago, limping 7.5 twice a day was bad enough.
But you know what anons? I'm going to give it a trial run on my days off.
I'm going to see just how well my body responds to 36km a day for two days at a time.
Because if it can build to it, I think I'll just move my shit out into 800acres of forest for the last month. If I can do it, I will walk 720kms in May. I have walked just over 1000kms since the start of January. My french ranger boots died after 900, the new ones are starting to feel it. Going to need more boots if this works out...
Also, duct tape. Duct tape and my feet once acquainted, have become inseparable friends. I love duct tape...
