2 different tools and both have a place. Backpacks for more weight and comfort with said weight. Haversacks for ultralight scouts and foraging. I carry about the same weight on my belt as I do in my haversack so that gives you an idea about weight and weight distribution. Not everyone goes to larp with a big goofy tactical bug out bag every weekend. Having to constantly take off and dump a backpack to grab something sucks. I am constantly gathering tinder, reaching for shotgun shells, filling a small canteen and pulling small tools from my haversack. I usually chill in a small forest with no trails and a lot of brush and brambles. Packs constantly get tangled up. I really don’t enjoy a having pack unless I am staying more than 2 days or want to pack in a mini field kitchen. I also find haversacks as a good control method for limiting your crap and helps to reinforce the use of skills over gear anyways. I used to carry a backpack pack every outing but it got old quick. I find that especially for day trips hunting, I am spending more time outdoors so to speak instead of living out of a back tote. Yes, I am autistic.
