I've been using a standard Contour ROAM on my helmet for a couple years now as my action cam.
I only do stuff like MTB, Kayaking and Paintball so I'm not one to say how tough it is or anything, but I love the little camera. Has 3 different resolutions, 1280x720 and 1280x960, both which have a sort of fish-eye effect (good or bad depending if you want that or not). 1920x1080 doesn't have that effect.
My only gripe with the ROAM is that all resolutions are capped at 30fps. I believe the ROAM2 and all the Go Pros are able to do 60fps. Also there is no screen or anything on the camera itself so you can view the footage. You have to take it home and plug it into your computer to watch it, so if you screwed up the angle or anything like that, you won't know about it until you view it (which isn't that much of a problem since it has a little laser line test that shows you the orientation of the camera.)
I might get upgrade sometime within the next 2 years or so, maybe a ROAM2. I was looking at a Go Pro when I first started, but I saw ContourRoams going for $99 on Amazon and that sealed the deal. Absolutely no regrets.
