English speakers are the absolute worst when it comes to doing the effort of learning some foreing language for a trip, because it's the foremost international language and expect to be able to use it anywhere
I know several Brits that moved here in France more than 20 years ago and never even tried to learn the language, and however nice they are I don't think I've ever heard the 2 aussies old ladies that rent in my street during the northern hemisphere summer utter a single word of French, not to mention the millions of other foreigners just passing by my area on the Mediterranean coast every year
I believe you when you say French people abroad particularly suck at English, I've seen it myself, but get a grip if you think the Anglophone world behaves any better outside its boundaries
