>>1278647not the same guy, but i'm swiss. most of us don't care about these stereotypes, but concerning cheese the common stereotype of a swiss comes close to reality. we have some god-tier cheese here and if you're hiking in the Alps you can buy self-made and self-stored cheese from the local "Alp" at almost every farm. the swiss have a long tradition of making cheese - and even innovating cheese in terms of making harder cheese because the traveling merchants in late middle ages and later could transport it easier and the cheese was better lasting.
>>1275890anyway: from my experience you can take with you soft cheese like mozzarella on a trip of 2 or 3 days, depending on the temperatures. if you're going longer than that i'd recommend hard cheese like parmiggiano or, if i'm allowed to recommend some swiss alternatives, sbrinz, emmentaler, greyerzer/gruyėre, or of course any other hard mountain cheese.
