Get a torque wrench (optional) and separate the action and the stock, place in bag, remove/reassemble when arrive at shooting spot. Savage synthetic stocks can be a bit flimsy, but that's easily fixed with a bit of epoxy work and a pillar job.
Other options include various scout or youth versions of popular .22 rifles, pistols and revolvers (check out the Ruger MKIII,) or a 10/22 carbine with an aftermarket folding stock.
