Heroes can absolutely be of myth or legend. It is what myth and legend are for! Obviously these were once word of mouth stories and delivered in social settings. While from a good place, your armchair pseudo-philosophy is a poor exercise. You have the right skepticism of wasting time looking at other people instead of living, I will grant you that. But with a percentage like that and the attitude of certainty without proof in your post is just self righteous. Show me it's a sign of mental problems and I'll be on board, evidently idolatry and idle worship are similar - but you don't worship a role model, you work to be like them.
That a hero must be known to you personally is just your opinion and I disagree. The story and the hero are basically one and the same.
