There are 6 large national forests totaling more than 11 million acres (I technically live in one now), 3 national parks, 18 national monuments, 31 state parks, 2 national recreation areas, over 2 dozen state recreation areas, and over 4 million acres of designated wilderness in AZ. While the San Juans, White mountains, Mogollon Rim, San Francisco peaks, Kaibab plateau, Gila NF and wilderness, Zion, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Fishlake NF, Capitol Reef, Arches, Pink Sands, Monument Valley, Moab, Death Valley, Joshua tree, and the sea of Cortez are also all within a 1-8hr drive away from even Phx. Pic related is still 125 miles outside of Flag and the same distance to Phx.
