You can line it with a sheet of coir to prevent the soil from washing out of the holes and you can plant something big in the middle like tomatoes or potatoes or some artichokes. You can plant shade tolerant crops on the shaded side. Intercropping would be good too. If you want to hang it like in your pic then add a bunch of crushed lump charcoal soaked in a fertilizer for a week, like compost/manure tea to your potting mix. It will reduce the weight significantly.
