When I first got into this, I was inundated with (largely unsolicited) advice from NPCs about what the best "trail bike" or "dirt bike" would be. Lots of very fervent opinions flying around. What none of these characters seem to account for is that ~90% of an ADV tour in the first world is tarmac -- and most of that is superslab.
1715 23 you wanna ride, you need the right bike for the task at hand. You wanna rip around the back forty, get a little 250. You want to do something grand, some real /k/in/o/ no tabi shit? You're going to need a bigger bike.
