First off, that bin is there so scroaty, chavvy teenagers can get rid of their kitchen knives so that they're not carrying them around. If they're not carrying a knife and they do get in a pub brawl etc, they have only their fists to use and won't do so much damage. That bin is not to stop intentional murders. It is to reduce the odds of little wannabe gangsters having a knife on them when they get into a scuffle.
Secondly, knife laws in the UK are overlooked anywhere outside of a city, such as London or Birmingham. This is because the majority of knife crime is committed in these cities by aforementioned degenerates. In London for example there is no need to have a hatchet or a machete, so if you get seen with one you'll have armed police show up and ask you what the fuck you're doing. If however you're in the country like me, no one gives a flying fuck. I got a small penknife when I was 11 and was always making spears and dens etc over the woods and fields with my mates. I remember once whittling some wood when police showed up looking for some dirt bikes that were trespassing on some private land, and just asking if we'd seen anything not even mentioning the knives we had out.
I regularly see people with air rifles and shotguns off hunting, and again, no one cares because they have a reason to use them: hunting. If it was central London it would be a very different story.
Take everything you read on 4chan about how we're a police state etc. with a pinch of salt. You will not get arrested for buying plastic spoons. You are allowed rifles and shotguns.
The UK as a majority also has a very different outlook towards guns than say, the US.Not many of us want them, and we'd prefer if they stay very closely regulated.
