Here's one of 8 raised beds I'm working on to fill with rich soil. It's been filled will yard clippings several times and heaped up with that. Now I've started to heap it up with soil, hay, and manure all dug up from animal stalls. Next I'll get a truck load of sand (from a non-ocean source) and put that all over the top. I'll cover it with black plastic and let it sit until spring. Then I'll uncover it, remove the blocks at both ends and run a tiller through it several times. That will get all the layers mixed up properly. After that, I'll most likely put hoops over it and poly tunnels so I can start the season earlier.
It's taking way too long to get these raised beds filled. I just need to find more people with free manure.
