If you sleep better in a cot than on a pad on the ground or in a hammock, you really don't need any other reason, the older you get the more a good night's rest will be important to you. For me a hammock does it, but the few times I've had to go into bivvy mode because there weren't any trees or poles I could use were damned uncomfortable by comparison.
If you're willing to spend the money for a camp cot maybe a different kind of hammock is what you need, lots of different hammocks in this vid, but check out the Dramur @ the 9:40 mark if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

P.S. The only other hammock that I can side-sleep in is one of those Mayan knit hammocks that I've got set up in the back yard, it's huge, stupid strong, but it's too heavy for a backpack but fine for car camping though.
