They aren't the most comfortable packs but they are quite versitile. Do the hellcat mod, alipad or upgrade w/ blackhawk or TT STRAPS.
Get the shelf and some bungie or molle straps so you can tie down wood, watercans, etc to the frame. This is also where the alipad comes in handy to keep it comfortable. They have some nice pockets in it for bladders.
I use the SOF which is blackhawk's take on the alice, uses the same frame . More comfortable shoulder and belt straps. Also threw a alipad for extra comfort and the bladders.
Also, I highly recommend looking into the ILBE, designed by arcteryx and made by propper. Tough as nails and very comfortable.
