West Virginia comparatively seems like a good selection. It is a place where natural splendor abounds and is peopled mostly by whites. The population seems to be declining and no liberal fantasizes about living in West Virginia. You can buy land for cheap and gun laws are unintrusive. There's the potential for arable land. I have family history in those mountains and I would not mind living there.
But all those considered, there's a horrid pollution problem. Coal mines have destroyed the quality of much of the water supply. Why homestead there of all places if you cannot rely on a good water source? Say you bought a secluded plot. What if a coal company moves in nearby?
