>>1743734very little oak left in norway, they constitute about 4% of our decidous forest and our climate isnt really suited for oak. most of them were cut down in our shipbuilding prime, and i believe a lot of it was sold to the dutch in the 17th and 18th centuries. i really like pine though, the old, twisted ones are really beautiful. i had to cut down a huge one growing next to my cabin last summer because it was slanting towards the southern wall and also it blocked the view. pine smells wonderful freshly cut, and is an excellent building material. it has to be dried if you are going to use it for roof rafters though, because it will bend under the snow loads the first winter and doesn't straighten itself out again come spring like spruce does. old dead pine also makes really nice firewood for camping
