They will climb all over them looking for transpiration droplets to drink. Some farm aphids, but you only need to hose off the aphids a few times for that to not be a problem. Very rarely they will eat fruit (apples, berries, peaces, strawberries, not tomatoes), but normally not until the fruit has become damaged by some other means.
Otherwise, the ants will kill & eat other pests and end up doing your garden more good than harm.
