I did end up setting one quiet often, because without one, I would wake up and decide that it was too cold and/or wet and just go back to sleep, without waking up enough to realize that riding in the cold mornings was much more pleasant than the hot afternoons.
Also, days got shorter as the trip progressed, pushing my stopping time earlier and my starting time later. By the end, I was only riding from 6 to 6 or so, and sleeping from 10 to 6:30. Granted, I would have gone later without the influence of my comrades, but only by an hour or so.
