My recorder wasn't cheap but still I've spent even more on raw chicken, batteries, coyote-bitch-in-heat urine, bird seed, SD cards, tripods, gas money, and (pic related) editing software. I bought my Sony in August 2014. Amortized cost comes out to less than $1 a day and still dropping. Compared to wasting money on the vending machines at work or Taco Bell drive through, a dollar is nothing. Apparently field recording isn't an easy way to make a living but recording nature is the greatest of hobbies. A sample of my 2017 captures:
