Thought about getting normal minimalist shoes, but they still scrunch your feet up which negates a lot of the point of minimalist shoes to begin with. Either way it's a really good trade off between hiking boots and pure barefoot. On hikes >10 miles I like to switch to another shoe halfway though. Sucks to carry hiking boots in your pack, but the vibrams are light at least.
What's nice is they dry really quick and aren't uncomfortable when wet.
