We lived in a valley and the Appalachians were like a second home for us scouts. No lake or forest even came close. What wonderful hikes we had in the autumn, hours and hours of beautiful trees and huge ancient rocks snoozing in the mountain. I would nibble on birch twigs for the sweet sap and look forward to camp where we had sassafras tea.
