I'd never suggest they are better than a tent.
They are more comfortable for me. That's why I use them. They also make an amazing spot to lounge. Seriously, sitting in my hammock, looking over the fire, taking a swig from my flask... It's life changing. It's just not the same laying on the ground in a tent.
I live in the eastern USA. There is literally no place within 200 miles that I couldn't find 2 trees.
That said, tents are awesome too. Simple, versatile, and often cheaper.
HYOH. No reason one has to be "better" than another. They're both cool.
