>>2685848You are right anon. People who believe that society can continue on its current track and that infinite growth is possible are delusional. And most people believe that, it's a common assumption, reinforced by the mass media narrative. People are mindless cattle incapable of any serious thought. What the average person thinks or feels should be completely disregarded by anyone who takes themselves seriously. Our society is collectively mentally ill. People nowadays are enslaved by debt, addiction and technology, without which one wouldn't be able to survive in society. Their needs to belong in a community where one can be involved and have an impact, for control and autonomy in life and at work, for meaning and purpose in life are not met. They are alienated from each other and from nature, which causes them great psychological suffering and they cope by identifying with the aggressor, rationalization, repression. displacement and so on. Confrontation with the reality that it is impossible for society to continue in its current direction is not pleasant for the average person, and also results in triggering these defense mechanisms. There is however more to it. It is difficult for people to completely change their way of thinking. It they grew up in times of an economic boom and fast developing technology, if they had it better than their parents, naturally they would expect the same for their children because they have come to believe that it is just how the world functions. Another aspect is that the average person does way more harm than good and understanding that is a severe blow to one's self esteem, which triggers the defense mechanisms as well.
