>>2543797Just go more than a few miles past the trailhead. My last trip to the Smokies was bookended by visits to Clingman’s Dome on the first day of fall. It’s one of the most popular attractions in the most popular park, and it was just a mass of people. But hiking for four days I only ran into a handful, and that was only on the AT section. Pic is Double Springs shelter, maybe 3 miles from Clingman’s Dome (where there’s parking, bathrooms, and so on). Not the time and date. See all of the people? Yeah, me neither.
