There are some options for you, though. Find a spot like Seneca Rocks, where are you can do 2-3 pitch climbs up one route, rappel down the other side of the wall, climb another route, rap down, climb a traversing route to another route, etc. With a competent leader and efficient transitions, you can get through a couple dozen pitches in a day without going to the same spot twice.
Carrying around approach shoes and climbing shoes is just part of the game. Just clip the unworn pair to your harness or stuff them in your pack.
