Go with a friend/ friends so they can help you if you break yourself.
Take a little extra water, but not enough that you'll have an unpleasantly heavy pack.
Plan your trip beforehand, but don't expect it to go exactly to the letter and don't freak out when you have to improvise.
Bring extra-extra socks.
Get good shoes and a good bed- you're always in one or the other.
Know your body and know how far you can go before needing a rest, and how many calories you need to keep going for the allotted time.
Bring a block of chocolate for when you get into bed to kick up the spirits.
When things inevitably fuck up, think about how funny/ cool it will be to talk about them when you get back.
Accept there will be times you'll ask "Why am I doing this to myself?" if you're in a harsh environment or on a long hike.
Set up camp early, but not early enough that you waste the rest of your day sitting around.
Bring baby wipes instead of normal toilet paper.
Boil water and put it in your drink bottle, then put your drink bottle inside a pair of socks. Use it to warm your feet in your sleeping bag.
When you're full at dinner, also have some extra snacks (thin soup, nut bars, choccy, cheese) to get calories to keep you warm at night.
Piss before you go to bed.
If you're in a hammock, don't put all your stuff directly under the hammock so when you need to piss at night you can flop your penis over the side and kind of prop yourself up and let rip.
Pic related is me on a big hike in Tasmania. All this info was very relevant.
