I've had good luck using a blastmatch as my primary source. It's a mechanical device though and prone to breakage. I carry a mag/ferrocerium starter at work in case I fall in a creek. The rod itself is less likely to break than one of those mini rods, and the magnesium shavings are a lifesaver.
