i myself am in the situation. practicing configuring a tarp into pic related, i need to know how much cord i need for a 1-rope config, as well as marking the cord in the different lengths for where the tie-offs belong
practicing with rope will teach you about lengths and marks that you will want in it, or how much length you need for certain jobs. using body lengths as measurement tools. for example for a hasty harness, i 'know' how many arm lengths of web i need to create an adequately sized loop
the most common use of precut paracord are for stake tieoffs, once you know how much they require. etc etc. im not a professional but i do like practicing with gear, and with that comes certain revelations. while i do prefer to leave you to those revelations yourself, there is information that one doesnt consider until a close call happens. like in the stealth camping thread, in the info dump, one piece of info was to not camp under large branches, aka widowmakers. that isnt something you normally consider when practicing, and isnt something you necessarily want a revelation for
