Pretty sure I've posted about this place before here, dunno if anyone remembers. Dawson Forest in northern Georgia. Used to be some sort of "nuclear aircraft" research lab in the years following WWII when there wasn't anyone living in the area at all hardly. I've been there multiple times as it's a wildlife management area now, but the place is just..off.
As soon as you get past the gates, there's practically no birdsong at all no matter where you are in the area. There's random patches of dead trees in the middle of the forest surrounded by completely healthy ones, as well as completely random patches/circles of dead undergrowth and small flora with, again, the surrounding ones just fine.
The strangest thing I've experienced there is trying to stay overnight. There just....wasn't any sound. At all. No wind in the trees, no animals, not even a cricket. I felt uneasy as fuck and just ended up noping out of there at like 3 in the morning.
Don't know what really happened there, nor do I buy the aircraft story as there isn't any land around inside the borders that looks remotely like a landing strip. There's this massive concrete shell of a building that used to be housed by the researchers inside a gated off area as well, with all the windows and entrances concreted off.
