Hey /out/, it's me again, that asshole who van camped the North Dakota winter. Crashing oil prices have put me out of a job up there, so now I have a job lined up fishing on the Bering Sea. I'm under the impression that this 4 minute documentary is a realistic depiction of the trade:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=penvn9VL32YAnyone here have experience on a catcher-processor vessel, especially one in the Bering Sea?
Anyone have any alternate employment ideas that'll net an absolute minimum of $11,250 over 75 days?
>>>/biz/719618The job is a 75 day contract during which I'll be working 112 hour work weeks. The work is assembly-line-tier monotonous, but very physical. I'm told that 30 foot waves are the norm and that I'm pretty much guaranteed to be sea sick for the first week or two of work. Save for snail mail and a very occasional phone call or email, I will be cut off from the outside world, stuck in cramped quarters with thirty other dudes who reek of fish guts. My pay is guaranteed to be at least $150 per day, but fishermen are almost always paid more based on their share of the value of the catch.
During my 8 hours off every day, what time I don't spend sleeping or showering will be spent learning to play the banjo and perhaps brushing back up on calculus or something.
