Hey, complete novice here, so sorry if I come across as an idiot, it's just because I am.
I have a buddy in Illinois that wants to go backpacking/camping and fish along the Rock River and some of its tributaries.
I have a hodgepodge of gear that kinda works, but I'm looking for a bit of advise. Google tells me there's mostly Smallmouth, Bluegill, Crappies, Catfish, and I guess they stock Walleye every year, but I don't know if we'll see any of that.
That said, my rod setup is... well you can see it. It's cheap, it's not the right reel for that rod, so should I pick up a different kind of reel or should I go buy a cheap collapsible rod off Amazon without the finger hook? We're planning on a lot of hiking, so collapsing I think will be nice so it fits completely inside my pack.
Also, if anyone has any other gear recommendations, I'd appreciate it.
If I catch even 2 fish over the 2 weeks we're doing this, I'll be happy. I don't think I've had a fish on a hook since I was single digits old.
