I know it's not exactly roughing it, but I love RVs. I still own a tent, and enjoy primitive campibg, but there's very few things as enjoyable to me as using my travel trailer. I have an Outback Terrain 260trs, and am very happy with it. Towed with a 2013 Ram 1500, no complaints there either.
