Avoid booze, it dehydrates you and makes the effects worse. Drink water. Lots of it. Drink enough water that you're pissing every hour or two.
If you can, get up to higher-elevation and just chill for a day. Get your body used to the lower oxygen air.
I live at 5.4k feet. Used to live at 7.2k feet. I regularly play 10k+, and it doesn't bother me till 11k+.
Went riding two weeks ago with a big crew, about half of whom were from <1k ft.
Town's about 6k. Mountains we rode were 8-10k. Took an evening to get settled in, first day out was a test/tune to get clutches and sleds dialed in, then the 2nd day was game on.
