How do I approach a pond carpeted with hydrilla? The bite's been almost non existent for the past month or so since it sprung up in full force. Weedless jigs to penetrate it don't work - it ends up collecting a pound of the stuff still. Top water cranks aren't doing anything - all the fishare hiding in the weeds. Same with live bait and anything else. I'm at a loss. The obly thing that's worked a bit has been tossing frog lures by lily pads.
Any special tactic you guys have for working with this bullshit? The ponds anywhere from 3-15ft. Anywhere under 5 feet has mats of the stuff less than a foot or so down.
Live line a crayfish and let it crawl to the fish? Stick to top water lures in the morning/evening/night in hopes of the fish being out of the weeds? It's killing me, not being able to catch shit in a pond loaded with fish.
>>345667Mepps spinners have always been my favoite. They did me so good that I ended up not using them as much because it was too easy. Switched to cranks and swim baits for more of a challenge.
