If i had to do it, i would load up on a shitton of tools and try to build a cabin in the middle of a good hunting ground with a river flowing through it. There would be no "big backpack". It would be two ginat backpacks, one on the front, one on the back + some kind of cart being hauled. The hiking to the spot would be a nightmare of pain and leg cramps with all that shit, but when i got there i would have a bunch of tools and a month worth of food so i would have time to setup.
I would learn AND PRACTICE all aspects of hunting, trapping, plant identification, permaculture, herbal medicine, wood working, structure construction, etc. BEFORE heading out. It would be years of learning and preparation for the average dude to have a chance of surviving on first attempt and not having to run back home.
