>>2411682>Cordura is a collection of synthetic fiber-based fabric technologies used in a wide array of products including luggage, backpacks, trousers, military wear and performance apparel.[1] in common vernacular its a generic term for nylon textile woven like this, 500 denier and up, but technically its a brand name like kleenex.
its strong, durable, very abrasion resistant and not waterproof. you commonly see backpacks use cordura for anything that might touch the ground, like the bottom or hip belt even if the bag itself isn't cordura.
i would say abrasion resistance and long term durability are its 2 niches. that's the one thing that more modern textiles you see in outdoors gear never passed it up on. for example x-pac is abrasion resistant but could delaminate over a few decades use. and for another example dyneema composite fabrics are good at everything except they have really, really poor abrasion resistance.
