Meat yields per animal (just meat, numbers are estimates only),
Squirrel: 6-8oz
Porcupine: 6-12lbs
Moose: 250-310lbs
Bison: 420-465lbs
Black Bear: 120-180lbs
Grizzly Bear: 150-300
Caribou: 200-250lbs
Dall Sheep: 50-100lbs
Rocky Mountain Goat: 50-85lbs
Elk: 88-270lbs
Wolf: 25-30lbs
Grouse: 2-4lbs
Hare: 2-4lbs
I bet he just lived day-to-day for food and did nothing to preserve it, not that he'd know anything about how to preserve food for later use. The moose alone would have fed him for months.
